Vegan Crunchie Bars / Chocolate Dipped Hokey-Pokey

Vegan Crunchie Bars / Chocolate Dipped Hokey-Pokey:

blog

It’s Friday, and I am official on holiday for the week! Whoo-hoo!

Just a quick blog to share with you something I have been craving recently, that I veganised today.

The Crunchie Bar:

I'm so excited...
“I’m so excited…”

Argh, so tasty, I used to chomp on these after work. No wonder in the year I have been vegan I have lost around a stone in weight! For the first 6 months I wasn’t finding all the vegan treats I know about now! Now l’m finding biscuits everywhere and veganising my old favourites. Time for the elasticated waistband perhaps!

 Step 1:

For the honeycomb/cinder toffee/ hokey-pokey you just need around 100g of caster sugar, 3tbsp golden syrup , 1tsp of bicarb and a sugar themometer. Melt the sugar and syrup on a low heat til dissolved, then wack it up to 150C or a bit lower for more of a chewy end result. Then mix in the bicarb to get a very hot bubbly syrup. Poor into a tray and cool.

Or,  be lazy like me and just buy it!!

Step 2:

Now just grab yourself some vegan chocolate and get it melted!

As you can see I’ve used Cadbury’s Bournville. There’s a bit of a hoo-haa over this as it’s ingredients has changed lots and lots to include dairy items, and even now it is a bit confusing with the bar appearing to shout at you: “THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS MILK DUE TO THE UNAVOIDABLE CROSS CONTAMINATION FROM MILK CHOCOLATE MADE ON THE SAME MANUFACTURING LINE” !!!!! But – if you read the ingredients list there is no dairy listed. So whilst most of the time I buy a higher cocoa % I just went with it this time.

Pro- tip: Use a fork when chocolate dipping, tap it on side of the bowl for the excess chocolate for you to eat use again!

And if you can resist it for some time, and you didn’t eat all the honeycomb at step 1. Pop it in the fridge for the chocolate to set.

Final product!

Yum!!

Have you ever veganised an old classic? Tell me about it! I can be found on facebook and instagram, I’d *love* for you to join me!

Love & happy crunching,

Katie
